Evidence from the floor and the finance office

These notes come from distributors who opened their transfer journals and warehouse aisles to SmartDistSys. Length and tone vary because the work did.

They spent two full days on our Kaohsiung hub floor before touching the ledger. The transfer exception list finally matched what our supervisors had been complaining about for months.

Mei-Ling Chen · Finance director, regional grocery distributor · Warehouse Network Finance Audit

The valuation memo was clear, though I wished they had sampled one more slow-moving category on day one. We still used their reserve ranges in our board pack without rewriting them.

Hiroshi Tan · Owner, three-site auto parts network · Inventory Valuation Assessment

Our overnight moves between Tainan and Taichung always left ghost quantities. The transfer review closed sixty-three unmatched notes in a single week.

Wei-Jun Lin · Operations controller · Inter-Warehouse Transfer Review

They explained freight pooling in language our warehouse leads understood. Margins on private-label lines stopped looking artificially strong after the reallocation.

Sara Okada · Channel manager, household goods distributor · Distribution Cost Allocation Check

Not the cheapest quote we received, and fieldwork ran a day longer than planned after a typhoon delay. The final findings pack, however, prevented a painful surprise with our external accountants.

Extended case: Twin-hub grocery network

Constraint

A southern grocery distributor ran paired hubs in Tainan and Kaohsiung with overnight stock swaps. Month-end inventory never matched the transfer journal; external accountants had flagged “unexplained in-transit” for two closes in a row.

What we did

During a warehouse network finance audit we sampled fourteen high-frequency SKUs, reconstructed three weeks of night moves, and sat with both dock supervisors to map which notes stayed on clipboards past dawn.

Outcome

Sixty-three unmatched transfers were listed with suggested postings. Finance closed the next month with a documented in-transit balance instead of a plug. The client later booked a narrower transfer review for the busy Moon Festival period.

Extended case: Auto-parts valuation

A three-site auto-parts owner needed an inventory valuation assessment before refinancing. Slow-moving chrome trim and discontinued filters dominated the aging report.

We walked the slow aisle with the warehouse lead, compared costing worksheets to shelf reality, and proposed reserve ranges the board could defend. One mild friction: day-one sampling missed a second aging band; we returned the next morning to finish it. The final memo still anchored their lender pack.
